Fios Feasa is a small company in the Corca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht that has been producing Irish-language CD-ROMs since 1998. To date they have produced two titles: An Bíobla Naofa ar CD-ROM (The Holy Bible on CD-ROM), available for Windows 95, & 98, Windows 3.1, and Macintosh; and CD Seanfhocal (Proverbial Sayings CD), which contains over 500 proverbs and is available in Macintosh and Windows 95/98 versions.

CD Seanfhocal is a polished, enjoyable program that takes good advantage of the multimedia capacities of the computer. One can download a demo version of the program (Windows 95/98 only), which is more or less identical to the full CD, except in the number of proverbs it has, from Fios Feasa's web page (www.fiosfeasa.com). The seanfhocail are divided into 72 different categories. An explanation for each one is available in Irish or in English, along with grammar notes and, most importantly, a recording of the proverb being said by native Irish speakers from Corca Dhuibhne. One of the program's best features is that one can choose between explanations in English or in Irish, according to one's wish and ability. There is also a bilingual search engine, and a preface. CD Seanfhocal costs IR£25, plus IR£3 shipping (to the US), and it's worth every penny.

An Bíobla Naofa ar CD-ROM includes the Irish-language text of the Bible, as printed by An Sagart, along with along with the letters of St. Patrick, a search engine, and illustrations. There are also bookmarks in the text, one for each chapter and heading, so as to find sections quickly. The CD costs IR£12, plus IR£3 shipping. Selections from the CD can be seen on the company's web page.

As excellent as these CD-ROMs are, more are still to come. A bilingual CD titled Nuastair na hÉireann: 1790í-1960í (History of Ireland: 1790s-1960s) will be coming out this year, and sample essays from it are already on Fios Feasa's web page. After that is promised a complete language course on CD-ROM. This will likely be a great aid to learners, especially since there will actually be three courses on the CD, one for each dialect, with the choice left to the user.

One can contact Fios Feasa, or order a CD at postmaster@fiosfeasa.com or www.fiosfeasa.com.
